SPATIAL FLASHCARDS

An augmented interactive learning tool, 2011

Spatial Flashcards is an augmented interactive learning tool for children to help them to engage in spatial awareness. 4 screens create a half-open cube. The animated 2D and 3D images are projected onto the 4 sides from different directions.

When participants enter the space, the participants are immersed in the projected environment. The Spatial Flashcards environment gives the users an unique feeling of immersion as you are surrounded by the environment.

The goal of this project is to realize the importance of playing and learning in children’s development by pushing the boundaries of spatial experience.
Awareness of spatial relationships is the ability to see or move objects in relation to each other and to oneself. It helps them stimulate their imagination, creativity and thinking by experiencing the sound, image, and the world as a whole. This opportunity to explore basic shapes, colors and words in a new way may be a more successful way to engage people in learning through play. Also, I really hope this installation helps stimulate great conversations between kids and their parents.
